This looks a competitive renewal of the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes but preference goes to POGO (best priced at 13/2) who won this race two seasons ago. The Charlie Hills trained eight-year-old is a 7f specialist so it was encouraging to see him run so well in the Group 2 bet365 Mile on his reappearance when weakening into fourth late on. His two runs at this track have resulted in a victory in this race by a nose in 2022 and a neck 2nd last time in the listed Spring Trophy behind recent Wathnan Racing acquisition Shartash. 

Finishing 2 ½ lengths ahead of the reopposing Witch Hunter that day, Pogo should confirm that form off the same terms and he looks sure to be involved in the finish with four places widely available.

Both Thrilling Dream and Livinthelife will be hoping to go one better than last time but STARSHINE LEGEND (best priced at 2/1) could prove extremely well handicapped on his handicap debut off an opening mark of 63. The James Ferguson trained three-year-old has looked outpaced in his three qualifying runs over a mile in novice company but now steps up in trip to 1m4f on his handicap debut. 

The son of Sea The Stars cost E190,000 as a yearling and has been gelded since his last run at Wolverhampton in March. Returning from an 81 day break, Starshine Legend should prove a different proposition now in handicaps and should prove hard to beat.

Following LANGHOLM (best priced at 9/2) so far this season has proved frustrating but he can hopefully gain a much-deserved victory in this race. The Michael Dods trained eight-year-old has form figures of 22322 at this course this season with his defeats coming by distances of ¾ length, a short head, a head and a neck. 

Langholm was only beaten a neck last time in first time blinkers off a mark of 57 and despite running here off 3lbs higher and being drawn widest, he should be involved in the finish with up to four places available.
