Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's racing action
16:20 Carlisle
This looks a competitive 0-68 handicap but preference goes to JKR COBBLER (best priced at 11/4) who won over this course and distance 10 days ago on his return. The Iain Jardine trained five-year-old has been running consistently well for a year now with form figures of 3411132341 and has improved from a mark of 47 up to 64 in that time.
Jkr Cobbler won by a short head over this course and distance last time so a 2lb rise from the handicapper seems fair and he should prove hard to beat if stepping forward from that return.
16:55 Carlisle
The Ruth Carr trained HOSTELRY (best priced at 9/2) is a two-time course winner at Carlisle and comes into this race following a good 2nd at Pontefract a fortnight ago. The seven-year-old old mare won at Thirsk on her reappearance this season by 4 ½ lengths off a mark of 63 before placing at both Ripon and Pontefract off marks of 67 and 68.
The handicapper has left Hostelry unchanged off a mark of 68 for her latest 2nd placed finish and she looks sure to run well with up to five places available.
20:10 Windsor
There are some interesting handicap debutants in this race but preference instead goes to PENALTY SHOOTOUT (best priced at 6/1) who should step forward from his reappearance run at Nottingham. The Rod Millman trained three-year-old had finished down the field in three novice races last season over 7f and a mile but was well supported to make a winning handicap debut at Nottingham on his reappearance having been gelded over the winter.
Penalty Shootout finished 3rd by 1 ½ lengths that day looking green in the lead when stepped up in trip to 1m2f for the first time. Oisin Murphy retains the ride and he should run well off only a 1lb higher mark and up to five places available.
