With Island Star now out this looks a great opportunity for GALLANT LION to get himself back in the winners enclosure. He won impressively over C&D as a 3yo and he hasn’t done much wrong in two starts since joining Alan King. He was beaten just over a couple of lengths into third at Newbury on return staying on well in the closing stages. He was then given too much to do when only sixth last month and is a lot better than that. He finished with running left and back at this venue off the same mark should be back to his best. Born Ruler has also won over track and trip and has knocked on the door the last twice so looks the obvious danger.

I’m siding with the most unexposed horse in the field in the shape of REBAATT for William Haggas. This son of Dark Angel caught the eye going down just half a length on handicap debut and up just 2lb if he improves again he should have a great chance against these. That was his first start over the trip last time and I still felt he shaped as though he’d improve fitness-wise. He has more to come and I’d be surprised if he wasn’t a fair bit better than his current mark. Amancio is more exposed but has been in good form winning at Haydock and then finishing second last time so could be the danger. Tatateo won at Lingfield and also has claims.
