This looks a competitive 0-75 handicap but preference goes to STARPROOF (best priced at 11/4) who bounced back to form last time and is a previous course and distance winner. The William Muir & Chris Grassick trained four-year-old won over this course and distance last season off a mark of 71 by 2 ½ lengths and has gradually dropped back from her revised mark of 75.

Starproof finished 2nd by less than a length at Newbury 10 days ago off a mark of 71 and has only been raised 2lbs back up to a mark of 73. She has won on soft ground and run well on good to firm ground last time so ground won’t be a concern and she should prove hard to beat under Lewis Edmunds.

Jeteye is respected in first time blinkers but BETTER BE DEFINITE (best priced at 10/3) looks the solid option in the race. The Nick Alexander trained six-year-old won in March at Ayr off a mark of 79 before finishing 2nd by ½ length over this course and distance in May off a mark of 84. Off a revised rating of 89, he showed a good attitude to win by a short head under Bruce Lynn.

The handicapper has raised Better Be Definite 3lbs for that victory and this progressive six-year-old should hold strong claims once again.

New Kings Road will surely be ‘wrong’ at the weights under a 6lb penalty when his rating is revised on Tuesday and preference instead goes to LENNON (best priced at 6/5) who won on his handicap debut a week ago. The George Boughey trained three-year-old returned from a 178 day break to win by ¾ length but he was value for a lot more than that winning distance suggests.

A 4lb rise should prove lenient in time and Lennon should win this before stepping up in trip later this week at either Newmarket or Leicester under a penalty.
