KITSUNE POWER (best price 3-1) hasn’t quite hit the heights anticipated for new connections but there have been more encouraging signs of late and with his latest two performances slightly better than the bare facts, Tim Easterby’s gelding can finally come good at a track he knows well.

Third here two starts ago, he proved that distances beyond 1m2f might prove to be the key to him long term and although he failed in his bid to better that position on his return visit nine days later, the figures suggest he ran with great credit in a deeper race.

Keeping on well from the rear of mid division inside the final two furlongs, his never-nearer fifth behind Letsbefrank was achieved against the track bias over towards the far side of the course and with today’s smaller field and likely less hectic pace sure to suit, the five-year-old can end his long wait between drinks.

JUMBEAU (best price 5-1) arrives here in tremendous nick having landed a C&D victory in the dying strides a month ago and with fast ground essential to the prospects of Tom Clover’s filly, she is fancied to capitalise under similar conditions on her return to the Berkshire venue (withdrawn on good to soft at York recently).

Although just five runners went to post for the Class 2 five-furlong dash, Democracy Diplomat ensured it was run at a blistering pace and it took every ounce of her courage to gain the verdict close home. Ending a losing run since scoring on her debut, the daughter of Brazen Beau wasn’t winning out of turn though, and now having found her sweet spot, she can continue to progress here and throughout the rest of the season.
