GYTO Notebook Double for Friday 28th June

Yarmouth 2.55 Warmonger (5/2)

Given the prices WARMONGER went off as a 2yo (100/1, 200/1, 300/1 and 300/1) I think it’s safe to say he was running over inadequate trips. The testing ground was probably to blame for his disappointing reappearance run on handicap debut at Salisbury and then on a better surface he showed up much better to finish second at Carlisle last time.

He goes up further in trip here and also encounters fast ground for the first time so I think there is good reason to think he can improve enough to win this.

Marmalade Lady took a step forward to win well at Chepstow last time and she looks on an upward curve now so might be the danger despite a 6lb rise for that. The Crafty Mole has won 2 of his last 3 and is another one expected to get competitive again.

Yarmouth 2.55 Warmonger (5/2)

The money came for CHIC COLOMBINE at Epsom and I think it is safe to say she was desperately unlucky. She was slowly away so lost ground at the start and then when making headway was denied a run and then hampered causing her to lose key momentum. She was switched and then remarkably came again but just couldn’t get to the eventual winner Breege who got first run and scrambled home. She goes up to a mile and a quarter for the first time and must have a great shout.

It is a good race though so there are a few dangers likely headed by Tiffany who won 3 of her last 4 starts as a 3yo and is another one open to further improvement. Darnation was back in the winners enclosure in Germany last month and is another one in with a chance.

Value Tip for Friday 28th June

Newmarket 7.35 Bulldog Drummond (4/1)

I’m keen to look away from the top of the market for this and BULLDOG DRUMMON makes plenty of appeal. He had a busy campaign as a 2yo winning twice on the AW for George Boughey and now with Patrick Owens made an encouraging start to finish third here last week. That was his first start obviously for his new trainer but also following a wind op and I thought he shaped as though he’d improve markedly for the run. The fact he was sent off 50/1 tells you connections didn’t expect much so I think that is all the more encouraging. He is unexposed over 7f so should love going back up in trip and has a great chance in this.

Aquacell won on debut but has been beaten twice since and she did look a little one paced under pressure at Yarmouth last time. It is still early days but I think she needs to improve again to win this. Lou Lou’s Gift will go off favourite but you wouldn’t want to take a short price about her as again I thought she disappointed a bit having looked briefly threatening at Kempton. She also needs to prove herself back on turf.
