There was an inevitability that STARSHINE LEGEND (best priced at 7/4) was going to eventually lead late on to win on his handicap debut and a 5lb rise from the handicapper shouldn’t stop him from following up in this race. The well-bred son of Sea The Stars showed very little on his three qualifying runs over a mile but returned from a gelding operation to win on his handicap debut at Catterick off a mark of 63 in first time cheekpieces over 1m4f.

Starshine Legend remains unexposed and should build on that effort and I expect him to prove hard to beat in this race if handling the track.

MULCIBER (best priced at 5/1) makes his stable debut for Dylan Cunha in this race following a gelding operation last time and he can hopefully extend his winning sequence at this track. The three-year-old made a winning handicap debut at this track over 7f last season in first time cheekpieces off a mark of 58 before winning over a mile here after a 59-day break in February off a mark of 59.
Beaten only 2 ¾ lengths when 2nd at Southwell in March, Mulciber now returns back to Newcastle following a gelding operation and a 109-day break and he should prove hard to beat off a mark of 65.

There won’t be many better-bred horses than SAMOON STAR (best priced at 3/1) running today but this daughter of Shirocco Star makes her handicap debut off a lowly mark of 60. The Hughie Morrison trained three-year-old was disappointing on her first two career starts at Lingfield and Windsor but showed more than her finishing position of seventh suggests at Chelmsford last time when upped in trip to 1m2f.
Settled in rear last time, Samoon Star was still travelling well on the bend when waiting for room before plugging on into seventh late on. She now makes her handicap debut off a mark of 60 in this weak 0-65 handicap and she should put in a much-improved effort if she has any sort of ability.

HEY BIG SPENDER (best priced at 8/1) has a similar profile to Samoon Star in the previous race being a home-bred who is bred to be much better than her opening mark on handicap debut. The William Haggas trained three-year-old has finished well beaten on her three qualifying runs at Newmarket, Bath and Yarmouth but as a result she has been given an opening mark of 57.
Connections now fit Hey Big Spender with first time blinkers for this race and she can hopefully get off the mark on her handicap debut.
