GYTO Notebook Double for Monday 1st July
I usually try and avoid these amateur jockeys’ races but LENNON looks a standout. He was well backed on handicap debut at Bath and ran on strongly to open his account. He improved again to prevail by a neck over a mile at this track last time and with the step up to a mile and a quarter firmly in his favour I think he’ll complete the hat-trick. George Boughey continues in terrific form with a strike rate of near 20% in the past fortnight so there is plenty going for this horse.
Unplugged is much more exposed but did run well going down just half a length at Haydock last time and on that form does look the likely danger. Life On The Rocks saw his winning run end at York but he ran well in defeat only beaten 3 lengths so he is another one who should get competitive back down in class.

Wolverhampton 7.30 Due Date (11/4)
I would have DUE DATE favourite for this. I know he didn’t need to improve to get his head back in front over C&D last time but I did like his attitude on that occasion and he is clearly well suited by this track having also won over track and trip earlier in the year. He is only nudged up 2lb and looks to have found a good opportunity to follow up. Marco Ghiani was in the saddle last time and maintains the partnership too which I see as a definite plus at this level.
Magic Gem also won last time but over further and at Chelmsford. He has won at this track before so looks the danger but he is 4lb higher and I think 7f is more his optimum. He could try and go forward but there is plenty of pace on so that might count against him. Porfin looked good winning at Yarmouth but failed to back that up at Lingfield and needs to bounce back but this is a weak enough race.

Value Tip for Monday 1st July
There was a lot of money for SHAGRAAN at Sandown on reappearance and I thought he was unlucky that day not to win. He improved again up to this trip to finish a close third at Newmarket and then clocked a career best when fifth behind Pilgrim at Royal Ascot. These are obviously much calmer waters and the step back up to 6f looks firmly in his favour so I think he can get back in the winners enclosure now. I know he is 3/1 at the time of writing but I do feel this is the case of value in a favourite.
Haymaker has won his last two but only prevailed by a nose at Goodwood and 3lb higher in a better race might be left vulnerable. Katey Kontent is my idea of a bigger danger as she didn’t run badly last time and has been left off the same mark. Rohaan is back down to his last winning mark but is hard to catch right these days and this test might not be ideal.
