The likes of City Derby, Faithfulflyer and Solly Attwell all arrive here on the back of recent wins but a chance is taken on CIEL DE NIEGE (best priced at 7/1) who has dropped to a career low mark. The nine-year-old was previously a high class chaser for Willie Mullins rated 152 when running in the Topham Chase last year but also a hurdler who finished a close 2nd in a Betfair Hurdle off a mark of 135 and 2nd at the Punchestown festival off a mark of 137.

Since leaving Willie Mullins and joining Ben Haslam, Ciel De Niege has run exclusively over fences but ran his best race to date when 4th beaten less than 10 lengths over 2m1½f last time off a mark of 125. He runs here now over hurdles for the first time since November 2021 back over his preferred intermediate distance but crucially he has somehow dropped to a career low mark of 115. Dropping into a Class 4 0-120 handicap, he should prove hard to beat.

Another JP McManus runner dropping in class is PETIT TONNERE (best priced at 7/1) who will find this race a lot easier than when running at the recent spring festivals at Cheltenham, Ayr and Aintree. The Jonjo & AJ O’Neill trained six-year-old finished 7th beaten only 6 ¼ lengths off a mark of 140 in the County Hurdle in 2023 before going chasing at the start of last season. He reverted back to hurdling to contest the County Hurdle, Scottish Champion Hurdle and a valuable handicap hurdle at Aintree with his best performance coming at Ayr when beaten only 4 ¾ lengths off a mark of 132.

Petit Tonnerre runs here off a mark of 128 so he looks well handicapped and hopefully he can win in this easier contest.

Last year’s winner HARRY’S HILL (best priced at 12/1) runs in this race off a 5lb higher mark this season but he comes into the back of it following an eye catching 2nd at Navan last time. The Martin Hassett trained six-year-old won this race last season off a mark of 79 on good ground before finishing a head 2nd over this course and distance in November on yielding/soft ground off the same mark.

Harry’s Hill ran well to finish 6th here on his penultimate start before finishing 2nd by ½ length at Navan last time off a mark of 80. The handicapper has raised him 4lbs for that which will make things more difficult in this race but with up to six places available, he looks sure to run well.
