A tricky race to solve despite the small field but BBOLD (best price 10-3) couldn’t arrive here in better shape, and he looks set to continue his fine recent run at a track where he has gone well in the past.

Yet to finish outside of the money since joining new connections, Daisy Hitchins’ gelding was ridden with loads of confident by Harry Reed at Stratford last time out and produced to lead at the final fence, he finally gained the success his consistency richly deserved.

Good on the numbers at the Midland venue, highlighted by a stronger final circuit than the two mile handicap earlier on the same card, the form took a boost yesterday with the runner-up, Do No Wrong, running a blinder in a hot race at Cartmel, and with today’s race unlikely to be run at dawdle, the 10-year-old can come through strongly to stake his claim at the business end.

FINE BY ME (best price 15-2) can count himself a shade unfortunate to bump into a tenacious opponent in the latter stages of a well-run affair at Southwell last time out but it was a performance that bodes well for the rest of the summer jumping period and he can gain his just rewards with the all-important run under his belt.

Having his first outing for 231 days, Nigel Twiston-Davies’ inmate was one of a pair responsible for a searching gallop that ultimately only two survived, so even though he ended up having to play second fiddle to a race-fit rival, there was certainly no shame in his excellent effort.

Unsurprisingly, given the pace set throughout the three-mile journey, the overall speed figure was the best on the card and with his rider’s claim taking him down to the mark that allowed him to score for the only time at Bangor during a similar period two years ago, the seven-year-old looks overpriced to get back into the winning groove.
