UK Horse Racing Tips: Bellewstown

Placed in four of his seven starts for Ger Lyons, HUTTON GLEN can make a winning debut over hurdles. Out of a useful dual-purpose mare, it's interesting that Tom Gibney pitches him into a novice contest straight away and the son of Aclaim will be fitter for his return to action at Leopardstown in May. St Faz, rated similarly to the selection on the Flat, has a nice bit of experience in this discipline. The Killarney maiden winner makes a quick reappearance after an unplaced run at the Curragh and has a healthy hurdles mark of 120. Churchwarden was highly tried a couple of times during the winter and will be fitter for a recent spin on the Flat.

Paul Townend comes here for one ride and can make the journey worthwhile on hurdling debutant WHERE'S MY JET. Having shown promise in two outings for Cormac Farrell, the selection justified long odds-on favouritism on his first start for Willie Mullins at Tramore in November. That bumper was an ordinary contest but the five-year-old can improve for going over flights. Dual bumper winner Intense Approach was beaten when coming down on hurdling debut before being highly tried in a Grade 2 at Kelso in March. He will be primed for a big run at his local track. Crooked Tannie has the rating to contend but has been a beaten favourite on his last three starts and now drops in trip.

A competitive contest can go to ME WEE BONNIE LASS. One of three runners for Gavin Cromwell, the daughter of Doyen won three of her first four starts including a course and distance handicap in April and ran respectably in a mares' novice contest at the Punchestown festival. Back from a break, the five-year-old can show that she is still feasibly treated on her return to handicap company. Napper Tandy turned over a higher-rated rival in a Punchestown novice last month and his mark has been left unchanged. So Scottish went close at Killarney two runs back and can contend but the handicapper may have caught up with Redwood Queen who completed a hat-trick at Listowel a month ago.

The locally-trained BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA gets the nod in this open contest. The winner of a point-to-point when in the care of Colin Bowe, the Ocovango bay wasn't knocked about on her track debut, finishing an encouraging fifth to Just For Love. Cottesloe Sunshine was two places ahead of the selection in third and she reopposes now. Godblessyourosie finished fourth on debut at Limerick in May and is another who wasn't given a hard time of it. Entitled to come on plenty for that effort, she should get a lot closer now. Placed on her last three starts, Slim Marvel certainly wouldn't be winning out of turn, while few would begrudge Ta Na La if she were to get her head in front. A strong case can be made for a few others, with the 104-rated Mill House Creek likely to give a good account of herself.

THE MASS PATH looks the safest option in this weak affair. A close third at Limerick on his penultimate start, he again had to settle for minor honours when tried over fences at Clonmel last month. Returning to the smaller obstacles now, he can be expected to go close. The subject of strong market support, Moneynabane disappointed on his debut for Ian Donoghue at Downpatrick last month. Successful at the northern venue in October, the Doyen six-year-old is capable of making an impact. A good third of 17 on his second try in handicap company at Punchestown, Kalaroun is a leading contender for the father and son team of Conor and Charlie O'Dwyer. Former Ballydoyle inmate Cape Bridgewater is another of interest on his handicap debut, while Lucky Storm, On My Bike and Boskill Borden (first-time blinkers) all warrant respect.

A three-time winner on the level, RIYAMI might be able open his account over flights. A solid fifth of 23 in a stronger contest than this at Leopardstown over Christmas, he since filled the runner-up spot when sent off favourite at Kilbeggan. Upped in trip now, it'll be disappointing if the 102-rated five-year-old isn't involved towards the business end in a contest of this quality. The winner of this very race in 2022 and third 12 months ago, Inforapenny is a definite danger. Placed on two of his last three starts, another bold bid can be expected from the Mark Fahey-trained seven-year-old. Handicap debutant Burru has some eye-catching bits of form to his name and could come alive in the market with Philip Byrnes an interesting jockey booking. Others of note are Downpatrick winner Kalsman and recent Sligo runner-up Hypersonic Missile.

While he steps into uncharted territory trip wise, COMO PARK is the suggestion in this competitive affair. A bit disappointing on his first few tries over flights, he made the breakthrough at Cork in November and has performed with credit in good quality contests since. Last seen finishing a fine fourth of 23 at the Punchestown Festival, he is tried over three-miles for the first time now. Second and third to So They Tell Me at Punchestown last month, Donkey Years and Everglow both look the have strong claims. On what was his debut for Ian Donoghue, the latter ran with plenty of credit on his first start since December, and it'll come as no surprise if he manages to go a few places better here. Beaten by just a nose at Kilbeggan last month, Donacheady Gale is sure to have plenty of supporters, while others for the shortlist are Getaway Charlie, Club Manager and top-weight Dollar Value.

The top three are the ones to focus on here, with preference for THE PASSING WIFE. Bought for 48,000 pounds after winning a point-to-point for Brian Linehan, he claimed a bumper on his second start for current connections and has performed with credit in high quality contests since. A fine third when last seen at the Punchestown Festival, he had no less than seven previous winners behind, and a reproduction of that effort should see him hard to beat. Placed and beaten by smart types on her first two outings at Ballinrobe, Gers Gigi made the breakthrough at Downpatrick last month and appears the main danger with Harry Swan aboard. Jackson Lamb also got off the mark at Downpatrick and while he was a decisive winner, it wasn't a strong race.
