GYTO Notebook Double for Monday 8th July

Ayr 5.15 Thaki (11/4)

It can often pay to side with a horse in winning form at this lowly level and THAKI ticks the box. He finally cashed in off a reduced mark at Hamilton last month and despite a 4lb rise is still well treated and should be able to follow up.

His win before last time came last year off a mark of 66 so off 62 here he should be more than capable of going close. I think the key to him is being positive and with a lack of pace on he should get the lead again.

Atomise has only been beaten a length the last twice and off the same mark does look the most obvious danger. Eternal Sunshine struck over C&D last month and is another one in with a chance but this does look tougher back in handicap company.

Ripon 8.30 Sea La Venus (11/4)

I’m going to side with the least exposed horse in the field in the shape of SEA LA VENUS for William Haggas. This Sea The Stars filly ran her best race to date when midfield at Lingfield last month and could easily be off a lenient mark now sent handicapping.

I think the harder they go the better for her so hopefully Normandy Vista and Kinetic lock horns up top and take each other on as that would be ideal. She is well bred and really should be difficult to beat off a mark of just 62.

Barafundle Bay made a winning handicap debut at Windsor last month and she is open to further improvement so looks the danger. Godsend needed the run at Lingfield last time but still has enough to prove to be winning this.

Value Tip for Monday 8th July

Ripon 8.00 Paddy’s Day (5/1)

That was a massive run in defeat from PADDY’S DAY at Newcastle last month. He went down just a neck at the line and was only headed in the final few strides. It was good to see him bounce back as he had previously caught the eye at Ayr before running a bit flat at Haydock albeit in a fiercely competitive race.

He is up 1lb off a mark of 75 again but if in the same form must have a great chance here as it looks a slightly easier race. I think he’d be better getting a lead at this track so hopefully it pans out favourably.

Miss Brazen was back to form to finish third at Nottingham last time and she could be the danger but I wouldn’t have her shorter in the market than the selection. High Opinion is on a hat-trick and is another one to note but a 5lb rise makes life tougher for sure.
