GYTO Notebook Double for Thursday 11th July
Newmarket 2.25 Whistlejacket (5/2)
The money came for WHISTLEJACKET before the Norfolk and while the gamble wasn’t landed he still shaped with considerable promise finishing fourth. He just looked like he wanted further staying on well in the closing stages so I expect him to take another big step forward tackling 6f for the first time here. He bolted up in soft ground at the Curragh on penultimate start so the ground should be to his liking as well given how much rain we’ve had recently. I think he has plenty going for him.
Electrolyte was denied just a nose in the Coventry looking a bit unlucky as the winner was on the other side of the track. He is clearly a very talented colt as well and looks the obvious danger. Ain’t Nobody is a perfect 2-2 after winning the Windsor Castle but this is tougher again.
19:35 Newbury
I think the market has this right and VANISH and Castle Cove will fight it out. Ready preference is for the former though as this Galileo colt caught the eye finishing runner-up on debut over C&D back in April. He was trained by Harry Charlton on that occasion and has since changed yards to Owen Burrows. He was beaten less than 2 lengths and shaped like a horse that would improve plenty for the experience. Given time since he is open to improvement and this could be a good opportunity.
Castle Cove overcame inexperience to make a winning debut at Leicester and then just raced a bit too keenly when only fourth at Redcar last month. He is still armed with a lot of potential and should give the selection most to think about. Kate The Cook also has potential but might need more time and experience.

Value Tip for Thursday 11th July
Leopardstown 5.40 Il Pellegrino (4/1)
I often say you can get value in a favourite and that is very much the case here with the improving IL PELLEGRINO for Joseph O’Brien. This No Nay Never colt was always doing enough to hold on at Limerick last month and now handicapping could easily take another step forward and follow up. This trip seemed to suit him well last time and with a good pace to run down again here this could pan out perfectly for him.
Transcending Glory, Raknah and even Quadruple could go forward and they might get racing too early which would be an ideal scenario. The latter is probably still the danger as she is by Frankel and impressed winning on handicap debut at Limerick and a 5lb rise isn’t too damaging. Serialise was only beaten a head last month and is another one to note as also looks on an upward curve.
