This looks a competitive novice race but there will be questions asked if RHETORICAL (best priced at EVENS) cannot record his second career victory. The William Haggas trained three-year-old made a winning debut at Newbury in May before finishing a close 2nd at Newmarket last month when only beaten ½ length.

The handicapper has given Rhetorical an opening mark of 88 which makes him the one to beat in this race now stepped up in trip to 1m4f for the first time. Still entered in the Great Voltigeur Stakes later this month, he should win this before going up in class.

Both Bama Lama and Some Nightmare are respected but preference goes to BRANDY STATION (best priced at 13/2) who boasts an impressive course and distance record. The Lisa Williamson trained nine-year-old has form figures of 13131 at the track including when landing a gamble last time by 4 ¾ lengths in a classified stakes race.

Returned to a handicap in this race, Brandy Station remains well handicapped off a mark of 56 and he should run well with Ethan Jones taking off weight once again.

18:50 Ffos Las

Dappled Light and Jimmy Mark arrive here following course victories last time but at a bigger price I feel CITY ESCAPE (best priced at 9/2) can upset them both with Oisin Murphy taking over on board. The Mark Loughnane trained seven-year-old hasn’t won since completing a double over this course and distance in August/September last year when he won on soft and heavy ground off marks of 57 and 60.

City Escape bounced back to form off a mark of 54 last time when 3rd beaten only ¾ length at Wolverhampton and he now returns to Ffos Las for the first time since last year when he won both of his starts at the track. The handicapper has raised him 1lb up to a mark of 55 and he should prove hard to beat with Oisin Murphy deputising on board.
