This looks to be between Melton Mossy, Winterwatch and CLEARANCE (best priced at 11/4) with preference going to the latter who is a six-time course winner. The Michael Blake trained 10-year-old has a superb record at this course with form figures of 134121111 including victories on his previous two starts.

Clearance won by 7 ½ lengths here over 2m2½f in May off a mark of 108 before defying a 4lb rise to win over this distance of 2m1f last time. The handicapper has only raised him 3lbs up to a mark of 115 and he should prove hard to beat if coping with the softer ground.

This looks a competitive 0-95 novices’ limited handicap hurdle but preference goes to KONIGIN ISABELLA (best priced at 7/2) who got off the mark in her career over this course and distance last time.

The Anthony Honeyball trained six-year-old had dropped 9lbs from her initial handicap mark but defied odds of 11/1 to win under Sam Twiston-Davies here last time off a mark of 85.

The handicapper has raised Konigin Isabella 4lbs for that neck victory but the pair had pulled a further 3 ½ lengths clear of the third. This added stamina test on softer ground should suit her and she should hold strong claims of following up in this race.

Due To Henry was no doubt an unlucky loser on his handicap debut last time but preference goes to WOOTTON’S JEWEL (best priced at 3/1) who made a winning reappearance on his handicap debut last time.

The Michael Bell trained three-year-old ran with credit on his three starts last season at Chester, Haydock and Ascot before returning from a gelding operation to win after a 290 day break on his reappearance.

Wootton’s Jewel only won by a short head over this course and distance that day but as a result he has only been raised 3lbs by the handicapper and he can hopefully make it 2/2 this season under Hector Crouch.
