GYTO Notebook Double for Saturday 27th July
This is a race that has been won by some nice fillies down the years and I’m hoping SIMMERING can fit the bill this year for Ollie Sangster. This daughter of Too Darn Hot was a big eye-catcher finishing third on debut at York and then ran a screamer beaten less than a length by Fairy Godmother in the Albany at Royal Ascot last month. The winner was obviously very impressive how she managed to find a gap and come home well but the selection also ran huge as she was slowly away and had a lot to do. She will improve again and is one to keep on side.
Kingman filly Mandurah impressed winning on debut at Newmarket and could be a nice filly for Simon and Ed Crisford so might be the one to give her most to think about. Handcuffed also made a winning start and likely has a bright future too.
16:05 Chester
Chester 4.05 Matters Most (11/4)
After going down just a neck at Windsor on reappearance it was a bit disappointing to see MATTERS MOST finish down the field at Royal Ascot but he was never really put in the race so I do think you can put a line through that. He was quickly back to form finishing a good third at Pontefract last time and with more to come with this tight track likely to suit he could be the one to beat. He is drawn out in stall 9 which isn’t ideal but I still think he could be good enough to overcome that.
Action Point was poor in France and at Newbury but those were good races and he will find this easier so could be the danger if bouncing back. Eye Of Dubai ran well over C&D last time and is another one who could get competitive.
14:35 Newcastle
Value Tip for Saturday 27th July
C&D winner APPIER could be the way to go here. He has held his form well since winning at Lingfield last month and while he was only fifth at Newbury last time he was beaten under 2 lengths and the time of the race was good. He is off the same mark and if they go a good gallop here I think he’ll be the one finishing best and he should be able to pick them up in the closing stages. Especially as we know he is fully effective over this track and trip.
Baltic does look the pace angle and is on a five-timer but I think he could end up setting it up for the selection and he is also up 8lb since that Newcastle win which seems a little harsh. Of the rest Tryfan is still unexposed and is another one in with a squeak.
