Steve Ryder is back with three tips for todays horse racing action
14:42 Pontefract
When China Horse Club paid 170,000 euros as a yearling for RISEN AGAIN (best priced at 3/1) they will have had higher aspirations than a 0-70 handicap but he should hold strong claims on his handicap debut. The James Ferguson trained gelding finished 2nd on his debut at Lingfield in February before finishing a never nearer 6th at Southwell a month later. He returned from a short break to finish well down the field at Leicester last time but he was sent off an unfancied 66/1 shot that day and it was clearly just a run to get a handicap mark.
Risen Again stayed on strongly over 7f on his first two starts so this step up to a mile on his handicap debut will suit and he should prove hard to beat with Daniel Muscutt back on board.
14:50 Deauville
The Andre Fabre trained MQSE DE SEVIGNE (best priced at 10/11) won this race last season and this consistent mare should repeat that success. The five-year-old has been a model of consistency the past two seasons with form figures of 22211211 and has won her two starts this season having finished 2nd behind Inspiral in the Sun Chariot Stakes on her final start last season.
Mqse De Sevigne beat Group 1 winner Skalleti on her reappearance before staying on strongly in the Prix d’Ispahan to beat Horizon Dore who went on to finish a close 3rd in the Prince Of Wales’ Stakes at Royal Ascot. Having beaten the boys on her previous two starts, she now steps back into a race against her own sex and she should prove hard to beat under regular rider Alexis Pouchin.
14:55 Uttoxeter
Connections of HANG IN THERE (best priced at 9/4) have decided to target this race rather than the Summer Plate at Market Rasen a fortnight ago and they should be rewarded with victory. The Emma Lavelle trained ten-year-old is unbeaten in his two starts at Uttoxeter including when winning by three lengths over this course and distance last time.
The handicapper has raised Hang In There 4lbs for that success which is fair and he should prove hard to beat with Joe Anderson once again claiming a valuable 3lbs.
