Arguably the toughest race on the card but at the same time, there looks no obvious reason why BEGIN THE LUCK  (best price 10-1) won’t go well and he is worth a small interest to back up that view.
The eight-year-old took his time to find his feet for new connections but he has really clicked into gear on his last two starts and they have both been in races where the speed figures have worked out favourably for the grade.

Runner-up to Rotten Row at Stratford on his penultimate outing, his performance when filling out the same position at Newton Abbot next time was, based on the data, pound-for-pound one of even more substance and that view was backed up by the fact Noah’s Light, pulled up the race at the west country track, has gone on to win since.

Placed three times in four starts over today’s track, all over hurdles, he now has a crack at the larger obstacles at the Midland circuit and with ground and trip to suit, it would be a shock if he didn’t reward each-way support with most firms offering the incentive of five places.

PORTER IN THE PARK (best price 7-2) has been on top of his game for quite some time now and he is strongly fancied to confirm form with Secret Trix, who he beat with a bit to spare at Stratford two starts ago.

Racing beyond three miles for the first time at the Midland venue, Emma Lavelle’s inmate was always travelling well within himself and despite a slightly awkward jump at the last, he stayed on best of all when challenged by his main market rival on the run-in.

Since then, the seven-year-old has gone on to run another solid race over today’s C&D and even though Secret Trix has boosted his levels of confidence with victory during the same period, the drying ground might just end up suiting him the most.

PILLAR OF STEEL (best price 15-2) took a while to find her mogo during this summer period but on the evidence of her latest exploits at Market Rasen, she looks poised to go on the sort of roll that allowed her to run up a sequence back in 2021.

Winner of five races back then, she hasn’t been quite so prolific in recent times but she bounced back to something approaching her very best 21 days ago and her time figure in defeating several in-form performers bode well for attempt at a repeat bid.

Since that gutsy success three weeks ago, both Bannister (runner-up) and Ambassador (won) have franked the form and having scored over today’s C&D twice in the past, a return to the Midland track should initiate quite a few positive vibes.
