Lord Riddiford is respected in his hat-trick bid but he races from 3lbs out of the handicap this year and instead a chance is taken on DEMOCRACY DILEMMA (best priced at 8/1) who should be well suited by this fast five furlong contest. The Robert Cowell trained four-year-old disappointed when sent off joint favourite for this race last season but has improved since joining the ‘Sprint King’ and finished a close 2nd in the Epsom Dash on a downhill course.

Democracy Dilemma comes into this race having finished 3rd beaten two lengths in a listed race at York last time and is deserving of his rating of 104. It seems significant that connections have entered him for the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes later in the week and should run well with up to five places on offer.

Despite being well supported since the betting has opened in this race, I MAXIMUS (best priced at 11/4) still looks worth backing at current odds. The Richard Hughes trained colt was sent off a well supported 5/4 favourite for his debut at Newbury where connections booked Oisin Murphy for the ride. The son of Zoustar finished 3rd that day behind two horses who had the benefit of experience and his run can be upgraded as he reared at the start.

I Maximus caught the eye with his finishing effort that day and he should prove hard to beat with Ryan Moore taking over on board.

Both Marazion and BUBBLING (best priced at 11/10) ran similar races on their debut but preference goes to the latter who is drawn slightly better in Stall 8. Aidan O’Brien won with a similar colt (Rock Of Cashel) yesterday who stepped forward from his debut run and this daughter of No Nay Never is expected to progress here.

The form of Bubbling received a boost with the winner of the maiden Exactly chasing home stablemate Bedtime Story in the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown and she should get off the mark with Wayne Lordan taking over on board.
