Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's racing action.
15:00 Goodwood
The market is favouring the chances of last time out winners in this race but I feel FRANCISCO’S PIECE (best priced at 18/1) is overpriced based on his runs over 5f. The Adrian Keatley trained colt won on his debut at Pontefract before finishing only a short head behind Shadow Army at York when trying to concede 5lbs to that rival. He has since boosted the form with a close 2nd in a Group 2 in France after which Francisco’s Piece himself went over to France and won a listed race by 2 ½ lengths.
All three of those starts came over 5f before he disappointed in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot when upped in trip to 6f. The fast ground remains a slight question mark but with up to five places available, I feel he will outrun his odds with Oisin Murphy deputising on board.
16:10 Goodwood
The unexposed fillies Power Of Destiny and Al Anoud dominate the market for this 0-105 handicap but I am taking a chance on last year’s winner THERE’S THE DOOR (best priced at 18/1) who has dropped down to the same mark this year. The David Evans trained four-year-old won this on heavy ground last year but did win a novice race on good to firm ground as a juvenile.
Since winning this race off a mark of 91 last season, There’s The Door has gradually dropped back down the ratings and was only beaten four lengths at Ascot last time on good to soft ground. With up to five places available, she should outrun her odds and hit the frame at a big price.
19:35 Leicester
This looks a weak 0-62 handicap and preference goes to THRILLING DREAM (best priced at 11/8) who won over this course and distance a week ago. The Ed Dunlop trained three-year-old won on his handicap debut off a mark of 56 before finishing 2nd at Windsor off a mark of 60.
Thrilling Dream got back to winning ways over this course and distance last time winning a four-runner race by 3 ½ lengths off a mark of 63. The handicapper has only raised him 4lbs for that success so he actually runs here 2lbs “wrong” at the weights under a 6lb penalty but it is a weak contest and he should follow up under Pat Cosgrave.
