Steve Ryder is back with three tips from Friday's horse racing action.
16:10 Goodwood
My Prospero heads the ratings at the top of the market but preference instead goes to the lightly raced four-year-old CICERO’S GIFT (best priced at 5/2). The Charlie Hills trained colt has won four of his five career starts with his only defeat coming when an unlucky 7th at Royal Ascot in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes behind Paddington.
Cicero’s Gift returned to win a Sandown handicap off a mark of 107 beating Holloway Boy who is well fancied for the Golden Mile (3:00). The good to firm ground is a slight question mark but the fact he could win last time after 382 days off the track and with connections stating this race was the target in the interview after, he should prove hard to beat.

17:35 Newcastle
It was notable how strong in the market GREENWICH (best priced at 10/1) was on his handicap debut last time and a chance is taken that he can bounce back from that lacklustre effort. The Rebecca Menzies trained four-year-old improved with each of his three qualifying runs including when 2nd beaten only 1 ½ lengths in a Redcar novice race in September.
Greenwich was sent off 7/4 favourite for his handicap debut over this course and distance last time but raced too keenly in the early stages on his first start for 111 days. He has once again had a break, this time 207 days, but he looks worth taking a chance at a much bigger price this time to fulfil the potential of his final run last season.
18:10 Musselburgh
Lady Luzon is respected following her victory last time but preference instead goes to MUSIC HISTORY (best priced at 15/8) who runs here 4lbs “well in” under a 6lb penalty. The Ed Bethell trained filly finished well beaten on her first three career starts but improved drastically when winning on her handicap debut last time by three lengths over this course and distance.
The handicapper has raised Music History 10lbs for that success up to a mark of 74 but she instead runs here under a 6lb penalty and she should hold strong claims of following up for the in-form pair of Callum Rodriguez and Ed Bethell who are both operating at a 32% strike rate in the past two weeks.
