The Michael Dodd trained EMILY POST (best priced at 14/1) defied odds of 28/1 to win this race last season and she should hold strong claims off only a 3lb higher mark. The five-year-old won this off a mark of 69 last season by 1 1/4 lengths having finished 9th on her previous two starts so the fact she arrives into this race out of form isn’t a huge concern.

Emily Post actually ran better than her finishing position of 6th suggests last time when only beaten 3 3/4 lengths but the handicapper has dropped her a further 2lbs down to a mark of 72 for this race. The return to a faster surface is no concern and she should hold strong claims of a repeat victory.

Oisin Murphy has only ridden for Alice Haynes three times and those have resulted in a win and a third placed finish so his booking on handicap debutant BALLSGROVE BOY (best priced at 13/2) seems a statement of intent. The Ardad colt finished down the field on his first two starts but was much better last time at Lingfield when finishing 4th beaten only 4 1/4 lengths despite being sent off 50/1.

Connections will have no doubt been targeting handicaps with Ballsgrove Boy so he is respected off an opening mark off 63 and should hit the frame despite being drawn in Stall 10.

The James Fanshawe trained HEATHCLIFFE (best priced at 10/11) is unbeaten over this trio of 7f and should get back to winning ways in this race. The three-year-old returned from a gelding operation to win over this course and distance on his reappearance off a mark of 69 before finishing 3rd when dropped back down to 6f on his next start here off a mark of 72.

The handicapper has left Heathcliffe unchanged following that two-length defeat and he must be well handicapped off this mark back up to 7f. He faces a few unexposed rivals but it would be disappointing if he cannot win this.
