UK Horse Racing Tips: Kilbeggan

Front-running CRACK THE SKY won three Flat races in Norway (twice) and Sweden prior to joining current connections and returns from a break, having jumped poorly last time. She has finished well-held by the winners on both her hurdle races to date and finished third at Naas last time, but has been beaten by capable types. She carries a winners' penalty but her jumping is likely to improve following a break and dropping to this level. The unpenalised Time For Tea has a race-fitness edge but was a shade disappointing when finishing fourth at today's venue last month and now drops in distance. Debut point-to-point winner Clonshire River is frustrating and his recent form has been disappointing.

Hurdling is a somewhat late vocation to SLIEVE BARNAGH but he can complete a hat-trick under his 7lb claimer. A three-time Flat winner, he was initially tried in maiden hurdles in 2021 and 2022 but was seen to much better effect on summer ground recently and might defy a 10lb hike for winning at Cork last month, as he competes in another winnable race. Spick And Span is a frustrating 14-race maiden but has recent handicap form and should get involved. Vale Of Glory defeated Indulging into fourth when winning at Punchestown in May 2023 and is forgiven his latest pulled-up effort (having blundered), although both have been off for a while.

FOUR CLEAN ACES doesn't appear to be a natural hurdler but is a dual bumper winner nonetheless and ran well over today's C&D last month. She pulled too hard in some of her early hurdle races and while she also has a small tendency to jump left, ran well when conceding 13lb to the winner here last month. Tonaghneave Well easily won an ordinary bumper here in June and while he may lack the selection's ability, he should improve jumping-wise from his own good hurdling debut over C&D last month. Point-to-point winner Ocean Brew is unpenalised and while she ran well on debut, possibly needs to show more than at Tramore last time.

RUN FOR OSCAR has been running at a high level on the Flat and reverts to hurdling at an ideal distance. Winner of the 2022 Cesarewitch at Newmarket, he finished third in the Group 1 Prix Du Cadran last September and while bigger targets await over the coming months, his latest hurdles run, when racing over an inadequate 2m2f behind Zanahiyr last October, was encouraging. Jack Kennedy rides Beaufort Scale in preference to chaser Tullybeg. Beaufort Scale won a useful C&D maiden last month but faces a tougher task here. Grade 1 winner Mr Adjudicator should improve from his Galway reappearance run but has plenty to prove as his most recent worthwhile form was achieved back in 2019.

CEANNDANA has been in excellent form and can complete a hat-trick of recent wins. A dual winner last summer, he won an ordinary Tramore beginners chase easily last May and followed that up by winning well from a subsequent scorer over today's distance here in a hurdle race. His hurdle rating has now risen to 112, which is 4lb higher than today's chase mark. Game And Glory has form at this level but disappointed at Wexford last month, where her rider reported that his mount 'never travelled', so he is now tried in first-time blinkers. Lady Kate also disappointed on her most recent run at Punchestown in June but now returns from a short break and is a proven stayer in this grade.

A WAVE OF THE SEA is a somewhat speculative suggestion on his first start for Shane Broderick. The C&D winner showed little in six runs in Britain but is now back in this country having started off with Joseph O'Brien. With the handicapper dropping the gelding 20lb since he last ran over here, he might just prove to be well treated. The Dara Man was runner-up in a Listed handicap chase at Cork when last seen. Despite being absent since October, the John Ryan-trained gelding has run well off a break in the past. Tipperary second Bua Boy is still relatively unexposed over fences, although there doesn't look to be much leeway off a mark of 120.

The well-bred LIVE AID can take this finale for the Emmet Mullins stable. A half-brother to two black-type horses on the Flat, the four-year-old makes his racecourse debut at a more moderate level. It will be interesting to see how much market support there is for the son of Rock Of Gibraltar. Eyecanboogie has a less flashy pedigree, being a first foal of a mare who ran once in a point-to-point. However, given her connections and their excellent record in bumpers at this venue, the filly has to enter calculations. Point-to-point winner Marcus Furius isn't certain to appreciate such a tight track but clearly has an engine as he was very impressive when landing his sole race between the flags.
