15:15 Beverley

This looks to be between the two recent course and distance winners King Sharja and ALICE’S IMPACT (best priced at 4/1) with preference going to the latter in recent of nearly a stone. The John & Sean Quinn trained three-year-old showed a good attitude to win by a nose over this course and distance on her penultimate start before finishing 2nd over a mile at Carlisle last time off a mark of 50.

Racing off the same mark here, Alice’s Impact should appreciate the return to Beverley and I expect her to prove hard to beat with Jason Hart back on board.

16:15 Beverley

The David O’Meara trained ORBAAN (best priced at 9/4) caught the eye of many in the Golden Mile when never getting a clear run and he should prove hard to beat back down in class. The nine-year-old was an easy winner of the Carlisle Bell in June when he had dropped to a career low mark of 81 before slightly disappointing on his next start a week later.

Orbaan travelled well last time at Goodwood but didn’t get a gap 2f and eventually finished on the bridle in midfield but he should gain compensation now dropped in grade from a Class 2 handicap back into Class 4 company.

20:00 Kempton

Having only beaten one rival home in his previous two starts, DAMASCUS STEEL (best priced at 10/1) deserves to be a double figure price in this race but the return to Kempton and the drop in class should help. The Ed Dunlop trained four-year-old won over this course and distance in May off a mark of 66 before finishing 2nd beaten only ¾ length off a mark of 72 over 2 miles here in June.

Damascus Steel finished well beaten at both Chelmsford and Sandown in Class 4 handicaps but now drops in trip and grade back down to 1m4f and into a Class 5 handicap. He faces some similarly out of form rivals and should bounce back with bookmakers offering up to four places.
