Nightbird upped her game when filling the runner-up berth at Nottingham a fortnight ago. The daughter of Invincible Spirit may put up most resistance to the selection, ahead of Over Spiced.

It may pay to persevere with SHIELAS WELL, who has filled the runner-up berth at Catterick and Thirsk of late. The Saxon Warrior filly makes plenty of appeal racing off an unchanged mark and compensation could be imminent. Greek Gift finished a close-up third behind the selection at the North Yorkshire venue six days ago and she's unlikely to be far away. Karl Burke's filly is feared most, although nursery debutant Caledonian Dream is worth a check in the betting.

The fitting of a first-time visor saw a return to form from ALMANJOOR when posting a close-up second at Doncaster earlier this month. The fourth has subsequently boosted that form with a comfortable victory at Windsor, so a 2lb rise for the Sands Of Mali gelding looks on the lenient side. Go On Rosie and Cheerleader also filled the runner-up spot on their latest outings, with the former feared most.

After a good second over C&D last time, a chance is taken on OPAL STORM to go one better. Brian Rothwell's charge wasn't granted a clear run towards the closing stages of that contest and with more luck in running, she can defy this 1lb rise. The consistent Emperor Caradoc rarely runs a bad race and he is likely to be in the shake-up, while former C&D winner Sound Reason is on an exploitable mark.

After a commanding success over 2m at Nottingham earlier this month, PFINGSTBERG looks primed to continue his progression. David Simcock's charge won unchallenged on that occasion, shaping as if a 6lb rise in the ratings might not be enough to stop him from going in again. The reopposing Wannabeawallaby (second) doesn't appear likely to reverse that form even off much more favourable terms, while Easy Equation was beaten just half a length off this mark over 2m1f at Pontefract on his penultimate start.

Having been beaten just under a length over 1m at Southwell last time, HAVANA SMOKE makes most appeal. Dylan Cunha's charge shaped as if this slight step up in trip would suit when running on well into second on that occasion and a 1lb rise in the ratings doesn't appear likely to be an issue. The consistent Whatwouldyouknow is also worthy of a favourable mention, while Captain Corelli won over C&D off 10lb higher in September 2022 and a return to form would see him go close.
