City Of York Stakes

Plenty of course form in the ascendancy for this Group 2 prize, most notably last year’s 1-2 in the shape of Kinross and Audience, but at the current odds, none make more appeal than LAKE FOREST (tipped at 6-1)

Winner of last season’s Gimcrack, William Haggas’ inmate has yet to add to his tally since but his two starts so far this term have been packed with promise.

Runner-up to Inisherin in the Commonwealth Cup on his seasonal bow, the three-year-old chestnut chased home another top-class sprinter in the same colours at Newbury last time out in the shape of Elite Status and on each occasion, he suggested a step up in trip wouldn’t be a bad option for him going forward.

Seemingly still open to plenty of improvement and with fewer battle scars than many of his rivals, providing the ground on the day is no worse than good, his current quotes of 10-1 would look decidedly generous.

LAKE FOREST – 1-point each-way @ 6-1
