UK Horse Racing Tips: Roscommon

Paul Flynn's TIMOURID could take advantage of a big drop in class. He holds a rating of 83 and, although unplaced in the Cork Derby and a premier handicap at Leopardstown, wasn't beaten far in either of those races. Furthermore, he has won on his last two visits to Roscommon. There is plenty of rain forecast which will really play to the strengths of Come On The Lads. He won a claimer on his penultimate start in Tipperary and then switched to Ger O'Leary for whom he finished third in a 0-75 handicap at Ballinrobe. French Company landed a claimer in Sligo, while Edge of Darkness is far from out of contention.

J'ADORE CHRIS is likely to be a short price, but it is hard to get away from her chance. She has posted two runner-up spots over a similar trip on debut at this track and over further in Killarney which give her leading claims. Cut in the ground isn't an obvious negative for progeny of her sire Churchill. Stall 15 isn't ideal, but she does look the best horse in the race. There has been some promise in Fairhaven's trio of fifth places, so she has a shot. Invincibletomorrow, who was a fair fifth in Gowran Park, and the 72-rated William F Browne are entitled to be in the mix for a cheque.

BARNAVARA has winning form on soft ground at the Curragh and has been mixing in Group races since then with a best finish of third in a Group 3 at Leopardstown. Sigh No More ran a remarkable race to win her maiden in Galway after being detached in the early stages. That powerful finish confirmed that she has an engine. Fiery Lucy is highest rated on 94 and was last seen finishing second behind a very classy sort in the valuable Ballyhane Stakes at Naas. The concern is that she was scratched from a Curragh contest because of yielding to soft ground. Sugar Club is going the right way and cannot be ruled out.

COUNTERCULTURE has posted two runner-up finishes from her four outings including on soft ground on debut at Tipperary, so this 75-rated filly ought to be heavily involved at the business end. Clever And Cute's debut second on testing ground in Gowran Park brings her into contention. She didn't build upon that when fifth in Navan, but that may have been a combination of a longer trip and fast ground. Triangle D'or attracted support before finishing third on racecourse bow at Killarney and is one to note in the market, while there is no doubt that My Little Lady's second place at 40/1 in Cork was a decent performance.

ORANDI would be ideally suited by the forecast rain as he likes easy ground and has shown useful form on recent runs. A reserve non-runner at the Galway Festival, he had previously run well here in May when meeting a little traffic and also won at the Curragh earlier that month. Veteran Shawaamekh finished second that day but is now 5lb better off so should have his say, and would also very much appreciate easy ground. Three-year-old Her Ladyship won on yielding-to-soft at Sligo in May and has contested two reasonably strong races recently. She was well held at Leopardstown last month but the runner-up, fourth and eight-placed horses have all won subsequently, although she has a poor draw in 18 today.

POETIC SOUND attracted market support when showing promise in a useful Killarney maiden on debut and should improve. He was taken off his feet by the pace-setting winner then but should step forward with that experience behind him. That race's runner-up has won subsequently and the fifth finished second on Saturday. Mick Collins has shown useful ability in two runs but looks vulnerable to the selection, who is open to more progression. Trapalanda showed plenty promise when racing professionally on his Curragh debut in June. He has been absent since, which is a small concern, and while the winner is now rated 90, the third-placed horse was subsequently well held at Galway.

LADY CHRISTA has obvious claims having run well at the Galway Festival recently. Her form this year has been good, apart from an uncharacteristic run in the Apprentice Derby, she likes easy ground and is ideally suited by this distance. Polemon provided today's rider with his first winner at Gowran six days ago and while he should be ok stepping back up in distance, he has a wide draw in 15 and probably wouldn't like the ground to become too soft. Status Green has winning form on soft and has been running consistently well.
