Steve Ryder is back with three tips from Wednesday's horse racing action.
16:05 Musselburgh
This looks a competitive 0-78 handicap but preference goes to SIMPLE STAR (best priced at 9/4) who was 2nd in this race last year off the same mark. The Dianne Sayer trained six-year-old has a good record here on the flat over further than 1m4f with form figures of 121223 including when placing on his two starts this season when beaten a neck off a mark of 75 and a short neck off a mark of 73.
Simple Star runs here off a mark of 73 and shouldn’t be inconvenienced by this step up in trip given that he won over hurdles a month ago over 2 miles at Perth. He should prove hard to beat with Paul Mulrennan on board on a stable in form.
16:25 Catterick
The Adam Nicol trained LADY PHEOBE (best priced at 4/1) had shown very little over shorter trips earlier in her career but improved markedly when 2nd over 1m4f at Hamilton last time. Outrunning odds of 18/1, the filly stayed on strongly with the winning favourite Gregorina to be beaten a head with the pair pulling five lengths clear of the third.
Lady Phoebe is a half-sister to Wise Eagle who progressed from a mark of 67 to 105 when upped in trip for this yard and she runs here off only a 4lb higher mark than last time.
16:35 Musselburgh
Braes Of Doune would hold strong claims if allowed to run following his victory yesterday but a chance is taken on the top weight VINCE LE PRINCE (best priced at 6/1) under a 5lb penalty. The Tim Easterby trained four-year-old has been running consistently well this season with two wins off marks of 66 including last time when a comfortable 3 ½ length winner at Catterick in a fourteen-runner handicap.
The handicapper has raised Vince Le Prince 7lbs for that success so he runs here 2lbs “well in” at the weights under a 5lb penalty and he looks sure to run well with four places widely available.
