Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's horse racing action.
16:25 Ffos Las
The Mark Loughnane trained CITY ESCAPE (best priced at 11/1) won this race last season and he looks a solid each way selection in his bid for a repeat success. The seven-year-old has a good record at Ffos Las in his career with form figures of 113 including when winning this race on soft ground last season off a mark of 60.
City Escape ran well to finish 3rd beaten only 1 ¼ lengths here in July off a mark of 54 before finishing 4th beaten only ¾ length on his next start at Leicester off the same mark. He disappointed last time in an apprentice handicap at Yarmouth but should bounce back on his return to Ffos Las off a mark of 54.
17:25 Carlisle
Recent course and distance winner Detective is respected under a 4lb penalty but I am willing to take a chance on SOLARA (best priced at 9/1) on her handicap debut. The Hugo Palmer trained filly has improved with each start this season and could prove well treated on her handicap debut off an opening mark of 65.
Solara has raced keenly in the early stages of her qualifying runs so the fact connections are fitting her with a first time hood is a positive and she should prove better suited by the demands of this race.
17:55 Newbury
This represents a step up in class for SCARLET LADY (best priced at 6/1) who was an impressive winner at Yarmouth 10 days ago but she gets to run here unpenalised and the form has been boosted since.
The Philip McBride trained filly had been running consistently well in handicaps this season with form figures of 225331 with her victory a four length win last time off a mark of 62. She beat Kracking that day who won on his next start and is now rated 3lbs higher than that race (he was running under a 5lb penalty) so the form has been boosted.
The handicapper has raised Scarlet Lady 8lbs up to a mark of 70 following that win but as it was an apprentice handicap she can run off her previous mark of 62 and she should run well with up to five places on offer and Connor Planas taking off a further 3lbs.
