Persian King colt TILTED KILT made a perfect start winning on debut over 7f at this track back in June. He certainly knew what was required that day and showed a good attitude to prevail. He was by no means disgraced when fourth at Newbury next time and despite running below par in France last month makes plenty of appeal now handicapping.

He should appreciate stepping up to a mile back on the AW and an opening mark of 80 may well prove lenient. His trainer William Knight has had 2 winners and 2 places from just 15 handicap debutants this year so that is encouraging enough to make his a play in an open race.

  • Master Builder – Haydock 1.50
  • Mearall - Thirsk 3.10
  • Fresh - Ascot 3.55
  • Assail - Kempton 4.55

Haydock 1.50 Master Builder (11/4)

I thought that was an eye-catching run from MASTER BUILDER up to this trip for the first time when third at York last month. He looked a bit unlucky and kept on strongly enough to the line. If he improves again with Buick booked then he should go close and I get the feeling he might be a young stayer to keep on side.

Thirsk 3.10 Mearall (9/4)

Such was the promise of that debut win from MEARALL despite getting beat at Ripon last time I think he could be the one to beat in this. He made all on debut but couldn’t get to the lead last time. There isn’t loads of pace on so he could go forward this time and in calmer waters he may well be able to resume his progression.

Ascot 3.55 Fresh (5/2)

Soft ground and 6f is exactly what FRESH needs to be at his best and he gets both here at his beloved Ascot. He ran a big race chasing home Jarraaf on penultimate start and then ran right up to form beaten half a length over 7f here last time. Back down a furlong with the ground in his favour now he should have a big shout.

Kempton 4.55 Assail (5/2)

The good looking ASSAIL has won 2 of his last 4 now and is looking progressive. He bolted up by 4 lengths at Ascot last time and despite a 7lb rise looks well placed to follow up. He is unexposed and if settling better could be capable of an even bigger performance. Luke Morris gets the leg up which is no negative and I make him the one to beat.
