Shah 10/11 (1pt)

Connections of SHAH (best priced at 10/11) decided to miss a novice race at Ascot yesterday in preference to running here and he can hopefully get off the mark at the third attempt. A runner-up on his debut behind subsequent Solario Stakes runner-up Matauri Bay, he finished 2nd over 7f here last time behind Angelo Buonarroti in the Convivial Maiden.

This step up in trip to a mile should suit Shah well and he is expected to beat Windlord in what looks like a match race between the two.

Dance And Romance 7/2 (1pt)

The least exposed runner in this 0-80 handicap is the three-year-old DANCE AND ROMANCE (best priced at 7/2) who looks well handicapped off a mark of 80. The Andrew Balding trained filly won on her debut at Southwell before finishing 2nd at Lingfield under a penalty. She returned from a 78 day break to win at Nottingham on her handicap debut off a mark of 72 before finishing a neck 3rd at Goodwood in a fillies’ handicap off a mark of 78.

Oisin Murphy takes over on board for the first time in her career and it would be disappointing if Dance And Romance can’t get back to winning ways against rivals who are a lot more exposed.

14:20 Brighton

Monday 2:20 Brighton- Hellavapace 15/8 (1pt)

The Jonny Portman trained HELLAVAPACE (forecast to be priced at 15/8) was rewarded for her consistent form with a victory at Brighton last time and she should hold strong claims under a 5lb penalty. The six-year-old finished runner-up on her two starts in August after a break off marks of 52 and 53 before recording her first win on turf at Brighton last time when beating the odds on favourite Oh So Audacious by two lengths.

The pair pulled a further 2 ½ lengths clear of the third so it looks strong form and it will be interesting whether she proves “well in” under a 5lb penalty when she is re-assessed by the handicapper on Tuesday. Back in an apprentice handicap under regular rider Olivia Tubb, Hellavapace should prove hard to beat.
