A combination of a step back down in trip and going handicapping for the first time could see GINA MOON improve enough to win this. She is by Getaway and despite not showing a great deal in four starts so far she may well have been let in leniently off a mark of just 99. This should be her optimum trip and in a race that might not take a great deal of winning the current price of 10/3 could look generous.

Trainer Gordon Elliott has done well with handicap debutants this year returning 9 winners and 17 places from 74 runners. Roughly 23% have hit the frame so the 11/10 for 3 places looks the main play.

  • Sea Aster – Perth 3.40
  • Final Entry - Newton Abbot 3.50
  • On Song - Brighton 5.50
  • Chalk Mountain - Wolverhampton 7.00

Perth 3.40 Sea Aster (9/4)

Despite taking a tumble at Wexford when last seen SEA ASTER remains a mare to be interested in and if she is none the worse following that I think she can bounce back in a big way here and give these a beating. Her win at Clonmel was promising and even that second to Sphagnum was a decent effort so she should be hard to beat if back to her best.

Newton Abbot 3.50 Final Entry (15/8)

There was lots to like about that C&D win from FINAL ENTRY on debut for this yard. He made plenty of mistakes as you’d expect for a horse going hurdling for the first time but he impressed with how he kept finding and was on top at the finish. He has been beaten on the Flat since but I wouldn’t read too much into that and back over obstacles looks the one to side with.

Brighton 5.50 On Song (11/4)

The lightly raced ON SONG could easily bounce back returned to this venue and he could be the one to beat. He impressed beating another progressive sort in Kracking over C&D last month and then had excuses when down the field at Bath. He is a lot better than he showed there and I’m expecting him to return to form which may well be good enough to give these a beating.

Wolverhampton 7.00 Chalk Mountain (5/2)

There is quite a bit of pace on here and that could play into the hands of CHALK MOUNTAIN. He impressed winning well at Southwell last time and despite a 5lb penalty if he is in the same form I think he can follow up against these. There isn’t a great deal of strength in depth so on paper at least it looks another good opportunity to strike while the iron is hot.
