Birkenhead- 5/1 (1pt)

A change in headgear often leads to a winning performance from BIRKENHEAD (best priced at 5/1) so he is often interest with a visor now replacing the cheekpieces he wore to victory last time over this course and distance. The Paul Midgley trained seven-year-old won in first time cheekpieces in November 2019, he then won when the cheekpieces were replaced by first time blinkers in May 2022 and then when those blinkers were replaced by a visor in July 2022.

Birkenhead has won twice over this course and distance and on both occasions were following change in headgear. In May he won when a visor replaced cheekpieces and last time when cheekpieces replaced a visor. He is only 2lbs higher than his latest victory and should prove hard to beat with David Nolan retaining the ride.

Laura Bay 5/1 (0.5pt ew)

The David Menuisier stable remain in good form with a 23% strike rate in the past two weeks and hopefully LAURA BAY (best priced at 5/1) can remain unbeaten in handicaps over this trip of 1m2f. The three-year-old won by a short head on her handicap debut at Newbury off a mark of 68 on her reappearance before finding 1m4f too far on her next start.

Laura Bay won at Sandown when dropped back down to 1m2f in July off a mark of 71 and she is now only 5lbs higher in this race. Connections pulled her out at Newbury last month on good to firm ground so they obviously feel softer ground will suit her well and she should run well with Tom Marquand deputising on board.

Sarmiento Power 11/4 (1pt)

King Power Racing paid 200,000gns for SARMIENTO POWER (best priced at 11/4) as a yearling and they will be hoping that he proves better than an opening mark of 64! The Roger Varian trained three-year-old showed very little in three starts over 7f earlier this year but now returns from a 91 day break having been gelded in that time.

Sarmiento Power now makes his handicap debut off an opening mark of 64 but crucially is now stepped up in trip to 1m2f for the first time. The fact Silvestre De Sousa rides recent winner Solar Bentley is a slight negative but he looks worth taking a chance on at this level.

15:40 Lingfield

Wednesday- 3:40 Lingfield- Sixteen One 2/1 (1pt)

This looks to be between Tara Road and SIXTEEN ONE (forecast to be priced at 2/1) with preference going to the latter who recorded a better RPR on their respective debuts. The George Boughey trained filly was sent off favourite at Leicester where she finished a head 2nd behind Kylie Of Lochalsh with the pair pulling 4 ¾ lengths clear of the third.

The winner that day had the benefit of two runs prior to that including at Royal Ascot and has since finished fifth beaten less than six lengths behind smart prospect Ballet Slippers under a penalty at Ascot. Sixteen One should step forward from her debut effort and should prove hard to beat with Billy Loughnane taking over on board from Pat Cosgrave.
