Steve Ryder has picked out two horse racing tips for Thursday’s horse racing and lined up another selection for tomorrow’s card at Kempton.
17:23 Ayr
This looks a competitive 0-65 handicap but it looks a good opportunity for HALF MOON RISING (best priced at 4/1) to complete a hat-trick of wins. The Ollie Pears trained three-year-old won at Carlisle in first time cheekpieces off a mark of 60 before following up on his next start at Catterick by 5 ½ lengths off a mark of 64.
The handicapper has raised Half Moon Rising 10lbs for that impressive success meaning that he runs here 4lbs “well in” at the weights under a 6lb penalty. Ben Robinson is once again on board and he can hopefully remain unbeaten under this rider and in cheekpieces.
17:30 Chelmsford
Standbackandlook 4/1 (0.5pt ew)
Saint Riquier was beaten off this mark at Brighton on Tuesday so a chance is taken on STANDBACKANDLOOK (best priced at 4/1) who should relish this return to the AW. The William Knight trained three-year-old has shown improved form since the application of cheekpieces with form figures of 2113.
His second place finish was behind Small Fry who has won since and is now rated 11lbs higher before winning easily at Wolverhampton twice off marks of 54 and 60 by a cumulative distance of 9 ½ lengths.
Standbackandlook was a beaten favourite when only 3rd at Nottingham a month ago under a 6lb penalty but he should be much better suited by this return to the AW. This mark of 68 will make things more tough but he looks sure to be involved in the finish with bookmakers still offering three places despite only having seven runners.
19:45 Kempton
Friday 7:45 Kempton- Jack Sparowe 13/2 (1pt)
Both Pure Of Heart and Orbital run here from 2lbs “well in” at the weights but I am willing to take a chance on JACK SPAROWE (forecast to be priced at 13/2) with the eyecatching jockey booking of Kaiya Fraser. Trainer John Butler and Kaiya Fraser have only combined twice so far in their careers but both have resulted in victories.
Jack Sparowe won this race last season off a mark of 68 and he runs here off a mark of only a 3lb higher mark. The five-year-old was only beaten 1 ¼ lengths when 4th at Newcastle a fortnight ago and that should put him spot on for this repeat bid.
