Equilateral, 0.5 pts E/W, 25/1

The Charlie Hills-trained EQUILATERAL (best price 25/1) isn’t the force of old, but I find it interesting to see him pitched into this race rather than a handicap on the card, which tells me that his connections expect him to perform well.

Plenty of his rivals are likely to take each other on for the lead, which can only increase his chances because he likes to be held up before coming through strongly late on. With Oisin Murphy booked to ride, he’s given one more chance at double-figure odds.

Admiral D, 0.5 pts E/W, 25/1

Richard Fahey’s ADMIRAL D (best price 25/1) beat a subsequent winner in November of last year off a 1lb higher mark and being 1lb lower than when an excellent third in this race last year, he must enter reckoning.

A year earlier, he finished a solid seventh in the Ayr Gold Cup off an 11lb higher mark, so it’s clear he likes it here and has undoubtedly been aimed at this meeting again. I think he’s got an excellent place chance at least.
