Trainer Darryll Holland is riding the crest of a wave right now operating at a near 30% strike rate in the past fortnight alone. He saddles flashy chestnut KARL CARLSTON here and this son of Mehmas may well be capable of making a winning start for the yard. He has shown promise in 3 starts to date and now pitched into a nursery off a mark of just 69 he should take a sizeable step forward.

He also goes up a furlong in trip which should be a big plus. He is armed with a handy enough draw so I think they might go forward on him and try to gallop these into the ground. The danger is possibly Dr T H G who showed something to work on stepping into handicap company for the first time at Epsom last month.

  • Annaf – Newbury 1.30
  • Enfjaar - Ayr 1.50
  • Charming Whisper - Newmarket 5.05
  • Whoop Whoop - Wolverhampton 6.30

Newbury 1.30 Annaf (7/2)

It should pay to forgive ANNAF that run in the Sprint Cup 2 weeks ago. He suffered a luckless trip and Rossa Ryan looked after him once his chance had gone. Prior to that he had won 3 of his last 4 and I think he can resume his progress here as it looks a good opening. Relief Rally lacks scope but ran well behind Elite Status and could still be the danger.

Ayr 1.50 Enfjaar (7/2)

Back down at Listed level ENFJAAR will be a danger to all here. He was denied the hat-trick narrowly at Goodwood and then was highly tried at York last month. He is better than what he showed there and I can see him getting back on track here with the step back up in trip firmly in his favour. It would’t surprise me to see him go off fav.

Newmarket 5.05 Charming Whisper (4/1)

I thought CHARMING WHISPER ran right up to form when beaten just a length at Newbury last month. He bumped into Crimson Road who is a decent yardstick and off just a 2lb higher mark looks a good bet to go one better and beat the favourite. He is unexposed over this trip too so could even have further improvement to come.

Wolverhampton 6.30 Whoop Whoop (15/8)

Likeable filly WHOOP WHOOP should have a good chance to complete the hat-trick here. She impressed getting off the mark on penultimate start and then followed up with something to spare last time. She is 3lb higher but is on a real roll right now and could easily strike again while the iron is hot.
