Instant Gambler 3/1 (1pt)

Getupearly is respected following a wind operation but this looks a good opportunity for INSTANT GAMBLER (best priced at 3/1) to follow up his recent success. The Alex Dunn trained eight-year-old had shown very little in his runs to date before springing a surprise on his return from a 565 day break over this course and distance earlier this month.

Instant Gambler defied odds of 25/1 to win under Adam Wedge off a mark of 64 and he runs here off only a 7lb higher mark. If he avoids the dreaded bounce factor then he should prove hard to beat.

Macarone 11/2 (1pt)

Recent winners Blue Force and Marching Mac dominate this market but I am willing to take a chance that MACARONE (best priced at 11/2) can bounce back to form in first time cheekpieces. The Craig Lidster trained three-year-old won over this course and distance last year off a mark of 56 before winning at Newcastle on his final start last season off a mark of 61.

Macarone has run better than his recent form figures suggest but as a result he has dropped down from a mark of 66 to a mark of 59 in those four runs. He is clearly well handicapped off that mark and I expect him to prove hard to beat in first time cheekpieces.

14:55 Goodwood

Wednesday 2:55 Goodwood- Thunder Ball 9/2 (1pt)

Last year’s winner Rhoscolyn will no doubt be popular with punters but he was disappointing here on his previous two starts and at a bigger price I prefer the chance of THUNDER BALL (best priced at 9/2) who has a similar profile to the favourite. The Paul & Oliver Cole trained four-year-old finished 2nd over this course and distance on soft ground just over a year ago before winning in impressive style by three lengths off a mark of 95 over this course and distance in October.

Thunder Ball ran well on good to soft ground at Newbury in the Spring Cup earlier this season before disappointing on his previous two starts on faster ground. This return to softer ground will suit and he looks well handicapped off a mark of 97 on his return to Goodwood.
