Steve Ryder has picked out two horse racing tips for Wednesday’s horse racing and lined up another selection for tomorrow’s card at Pontefract.
16:27 Kempton
Zinchenko 11/1 (0.5pt ew)
The Jonny Portman trained ZINCHENKO (best priced at 11/1) ran below par at Lingfield last time but now returns to Kempton where he was run his best races. The three-year-old outran odds of 200/1 to finish 4th here in a novice race last season before finishing 5th beaten only 2 ½ lengths on his final start last season off a mark of 68.
Zinchenko disappointed at Salisbury on his reappearance but once again ran well at Kempton to finish 4th beaten only 1 ½ lengths over this course and distance off a mark of 64 on his penultimate start. He could only finish 5th at Lingfield but as a result has dropped to career low mark of 62 and he looks sure to run well back at Kempton with four places widely available.
17:15 Goodwood
Crystal Flyer 7/2 (1pt)
This looks a competitive 0-95 fillies’ handicap but preference goes to the progressive three-year-old CRYSTAL FLYER (best priced at 7/2). Ryan Moore takes his first ride for the Tom Ward stable this season on this filly who has won both of her previous starts at this track over 1m2f and 1m4f.
Being a half sister to Chester Cup winner Zoffee, Crystal Flyer should appreciate this step up in trip to 1m6f for the first time. This softer ground is a slight question mark but she looks the most likely to upset the favourite Coco Royale.
15:10 Pontefract
Thursday 3:10 Pontefract- Overture 3/1 (1pt)
The Sir Mark Prescott trained OVERTURE (best priced at 3/1) has won her previous four starts since going over 1m2f and further and she should hold strong claims under a 5lb penalty. The three-year-old has won at Yarmouth twice, Nottingham and at Southwell including last time when a heavily eased neck winner off a mark of 81.
The handicapper didn’t fall for the tricks of Luke Morris that day who has raised Overture 6lbs for that victory so she runs here 1lb “well in” at the weights in this race under a 5lb penalty. She raced keenly last time on her first start over 1m3½f so this drop back in trip to 1m2f should actually suit her better and I expect her to complete a five-timer.
