After failing to get competitive when well backed on debut IFFRAAJ POWER hasn’t shown a great deal in two starts since but you get the impression he is the type to do better now handicapping. He goes up in trip and an opening mark of just 67 could easily prove lenient. Tommie Jakes has been booked for the ride and is good value for his 5lb claim too.

Trainer George Boughey has done well with handicap debutants producing 13 winners and 32 placed efforts from 75 runners this year. The 9/2 looks worth snapping up as does the 11/10 to hit the frame.

  • Giselle – Curragh 1.40
  • Brighton Boy - Newmarket 2.05
  • Al Aasy - Ascot 2.25
  • Jarraaf - Ascot 3.00

Curragh 1.40 Giselle (10/11)

Frankel filly GISELLE ran a cracker on debut to go down just over a length to stablemate Bedtime Story on debut at Leopardstown back in June. She has been given time since but is clearly open to plenty of improvement and she could be a nice filly going forward so I expect her to win this. Edge Of Seventeen was only beaten a length on debut herself and looks the danger with more to come now.

Newmarket 2.05 Brighton Boy (4/1)

It was good to see BRIGHTON BOY back on track at York last month and with the promise of more to come I think he is a good bet here to make it 3 wins from his last 4 starts. He has gone up 6lb but I’m fairly confident he has a fair bit of improvement in him yet and I want to keep him on side. Twafeeg was impressive on debut and then lost all chance in the stalls in the Albany so is the danger.

Ascot 2.25 Al Aasy (9/4)

Confidence is high for AL AASY and I can see him stamping his class on this field. He is on a hat-trick after beating Relentless Voyager at Glorious Goodwood and then Al Qareem at Newbury. If it pans out favourably he will come with that customary late turn of foot and peg them back. Al Qareem is a very decent yardstick and might be the danger again but strictly he is held on form. Hamish is likeable and at least has his ground here.

Ascot 3.00 Jarraaf (3/1)

Progressive colt JARRAAF looks the one to side with as he bids to complete a hat-trick. He relished this C&D to beat Fresh back in July and then followed up over the same track and trip last time hitting the line hard. That form has worked out well since and it is no surprise to see him step up into Group company now as connections likely had this as the target all along. English Oak was back to form at Newbury and we know he likes it here so is the danger.
