Despite not showing huge amounts MANHATTAN CHUTE definitely catches the eye now going handicapping. He was sent off 125/1 and 150/1 on his first two starts suggesting they knew he was going to be a work in progress. He showed more when sent off 11/1 at Gowran finishing sixth and then ran his best race to date when fourth behind Antelope Canyon over C&D last month. An opening mark of 85 may well be lenient and he looks the right price to take a chance.

His trainer Michael O’Callaghan has done well with handicap debutants this year too saddling 4 winners and 6 placed efforts from just 11 runners. I expect the 9/1 to get backed and the 9/4 for him to hit the frame is generous as well with Colin Keane an eye-catching booking.

  • Bolo Neighs – York 1.30
  • Liari - Chepstow 2.10
  • Huscal - Newmarket 4.15
  • Dinons - Hexham 4.20

York 1.30 Bolo Neighs (5/2)

I know BOLO NEIGHS was probably a bit flattered by that 7 length win at the Curragh last month but even so it was still quite impressive and he should take a lot of stopping as he bids to follow up. He is pitched into Listed company now but is completely unexposed so could have a fair bit more to come yet. Invictus Gold is on a hat-trick and is also going the right way but this is a fair bit tougher again.

Chepstow 2.10 Liari (5/2)

The progressive LIARI was pulled up in the Fred Winter when last seen but he had won 3 in a row prior to that and was particularly impressive in the Scottish Triumph Hurdle on penultimate start. We know he goes well fresh and he could have more to come again this season so I think he’ll bounce back. Roaring Legend won at Stratford when last seen and back in a handicap is the main danger.

Newmarket 4.15 Huscal (6/1)

Good looking colt HUSCAL has got better with every run and impressed following up that Ripon win at Thirsk last month. He is open to further improvement stretching out another furlong in trip here and may well prove good enough to land the hat-trick. An opening mark of 88 is no given but he looks on an upward curve and is worth keeping on side. Olympus Point impressed winning readily here last time and looks the danger despite going up 9lb.

Hexham 4.20 Dinons (3/1)

I’m hoping DINONS is the one to beat here. I know he is an 11yo now but he romped home over C&D on debut for this yard back in the summer and bounced back from that Market Rasen blip to win at Uttoxeter when last seen. He is actually quite lightly raced and this looks winnable too. Supremely West finished runner-up on his last 4 starts and has won fresh before so looks the danger. Kandor is another one to note on handicap bow.
