Steve Ryder has picked out three horse racing tips for Saturday's horse racing at Ascot and Catterick.
14:35 Ascot
The Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes is probably the most competitive group race on the card but I feel it can go the way of the progressive TIFFANY (best priced at 8/1). A stereotypical Sir Mark Prescott improver, she is a model of consistency with form figures out of novice/maiden company of 11211121 with her only defeat this season coming when slipping on the bend at Haydock prior to the meeting being abandoned.
Tiffany won a Group 2 in Germany last time in first time cheekpieces under Luke Morris racing prominently and I am sure her rider will adopt similar tactics in this big field. She was an impressive winner on soft ground on her reappearance and I would be surprised if she was to finish outside of the top five at the finish.

The market has readjusted since declaration time to make CALANDAGAN (best priced at 7/4) favourite over Economics and I think that is the correct decision. The three-year-old bids to become another French winner of the race following victories for Cirrus Des Aigles, Almanzor and Sealiway in recent years. The Francis Henri Graffard stable have had a fantastic year bringing horses over to Ascot with four wins, three seconds and a fourth placed finish from 23 runs.
Calandagan was an impressive six length winner at Royal Ascot before finishing a length 2nd to City Of Troy in the Juddmonte International when he was the only horse to make a challenge from a rear that day. The soft ground at this time of the year is a slight question being a son of Gleneagles but he is deserving of his rating of 125 and looks the one to beat.
16:45 Catterick
This looks a competitive 0-100 handicap but I will be disappointed if VINTAGE CLARETS (best priced at 7/2) cannot repeat his success in this contest from last year. The Richard Fahey trained five-year-old won this race last season off a mark of 94 on heavy ground before placing off marks of 97 and 95 since. Following below par runs on quicker ground, he relished the return to a softer surface when winning at Chester off a mark of 88 a month ago before finishing 2nd at Ascot last time off a mark of 91.
A mark of 93 still makes Vintage Clarets well handicapped on his previous form on soft ground last season and he should prove hard to beat with last year’s winner rider Oisin Orr back on board.
