Now sent handicapping and sent up in trip again MAD MIKE should come into his own. He got his head in front at Chepstow but was demoted in the stewards room. That form has worked out well and then he won a match emphatically at this track on final start. He has more to come now handicapping and an opening mark of 112 could prove lenient.

Trainer Philip Hobbs has done well with handicap debutants this year saddling 5 winners and 12 placed efforts from just 18 runners so I have backed the 4/1 each way and also taken the 5/4 to hit the frame.

  • Hostility – Curragh 12.30
  • Budding - Yarmouth 3.05
  • Catboy - Exeter 5.03
  • Barnaby - Newcastle 7.25

Curragh 12.30 Hostility (7/2)

No Nay Never colt HOSTILITY has improved with each run and with more to come again I expect him to get off the mark now. I know that Listowel form could have worked out better but visually it looked a good run and I think he’ll take another step forward here. Debutant Saracen could be the one to give him most to think about so keep an eye on the market on that one.

Yarmouth 3.05 Budding (3/1)

Cracksman filly BUDDING has caught the eye on more than one occasion and she wasn’t disgraced when fourth at Kempton last month. If she gets back on the up here she should have a great chance to finally get off the mark especially with Tom Marquand booked for the ride. Albert Lasker was a good second at Newcastle and looks the obvious danger.

Exeter 5.03 Catboy (6/1)

First-time cheekpieces saw CATBOY produce a career best making all the running at Fontwell last month. He impressed with how easily he won that race and despite an 8lb rise pitched into a better race he has decent claims to follow up. I think they’ll go forward with him again and as long as he isn’t taken on too much he’ll be the one to beat. Rehill Relic is the main threat but lacks a run.

Newcastle 7.25 Barnaby (7/4)

The money was down and BARNABY made no mistake winning readily over C&D when last seen. He is 5lb higher but may well be good enough to follow up against these. He is unexposed over this trip so there should be further improvement to come. Jkr Cobbler likes it here and will be a danger if bouncing back to his best. No Saint is another one who could get involved.
