HARPER’S FERRY (tipped at 9/2) has the potential to really cause some damage off this mark and is open to a lot more improvement after just a handful of starts.

He finished a nose second on his debut at Newmarket on soft ground and opened his account at the third time of asking at Windsor, beating the useful Poniros.

Far from disgraced when eighth in a Group 2 race at Royal Ascot that has worked out well, he should improve from his handicap debut effort at Doncaster last time out.

Altmore has won his last couple of starts in good style, but he’s short enough in the betting and will do extremely well to get the better of the Ralph Beckett-trained ZOUM ZOUM (tipped at 7/1).

He won all three starts last year, including twice on heavy ground, with one of those coming in a Listed race in France before finishing second in a Group 3 race at Newbury on his return in April.

He’s continuously been highly tried since and wasn’t beaten far when fifth in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. His latest third in another Listed race also reads well, so he makes the most appeal on handicap debut.

THE COFFEE POD (best price 20/1) shaped really well when fifth of 13 at Haydock last time out, keeping on well to be nearest the finish, and has interestingly been dropped 2lb, which sees his mark only 1lb higher than when last successful.

Richard Hannon’s charge hasn’t had many goes on soft ground, and there’s a chance he may improve for it. He’s drawn well in stall two and should be suited to the return to six furlongs, so at an each-way price, he will do for me.
