Steve Ryder has picked out three horse racing tips for Saturday's racing at Cheltenham and Doncaster.
14:05 Doncaster
Last year’s winner Aberama Gold has been well backed for this race but I much prefer the chances of VINTAGE CLARETS (best priced at 13/2) who finished 3rd in this race last season and beat him comfortably at Catterick last time. The Richard Fahey trained five-year-old has shown improved form since meeting softer ground this autumn with a victory at Chester on good to soft ground off a mark of 88, a close 2nd at Ascot on soft ground off a mark of 91 and a comfortable length victory at Catterick a week ago on soft ground off a mark of 93.
Now running off a mark of 97 which is the same as when 3rd in this race last season, Vintage Clarets looks sure to run well with up to six places available.
16:05 Cheltenham
The Richard Bandey trained THEATRE MAN (best priced at 2/1) started last season in great form over fences with his best performance coming when 2nd behind the progressive Ginny’s Destiny in a novices’ handicap chase at the January meeting here. Following that run he was sent off 10/3 favourite for the Plate at the Cheltenham festival but unfortunately fell at the third fence and his confidence was probably knocked when disappointing at Aintree on his final start last season.
Now returning in first time cheekpieces, which is a signal of an intent to win, Theatre Man should be able to beat higher rated rivals Yeats Star and Hyland in receipt of 5lbs.
16:40 Cheltenham
Gavin Cromwell successfully raided the UK throughout last season and he has plenty of chances today at Cheltenham following the victory of Path d’Oroux yesterday. THE DANCING TREE (best priced at 2/1) ran well in a strong PTP in April before defying an SP of 9/1 to win by 6 ½ lengths on his debut under rules in a bumper at Limerick in January.
The Dancing Tree clearly hasn’t been the easiest to train with another 270 days off the track but connections can be rewarded with the patient approach in this race full of newcomers.
