He can defy a 5lb penalty and land the hat-trick, with this extra distance not a problem. It was heavy ground when Fen Tiger won this in 2022 and another bold bid looks on the cards competing off the same mark. The progressive Liberated Lad and Cherryhawk are others worthy of consideration.

BE AN ANGEL was beaten only a neck over C&D on debut, despite showing signs of inexperience. Rod Millman's filly handled the testing going perfectly well on that occasion and can open her account with normal improvement. Ann Terry put a couple of lesser efforts behind her when finishing a solid second at Pontefract last month and she makes more appeal than the penalised Fleetwater and Impatiently.

The prevailing heavy going will help the cause of ZADKIEL. The son of Dark Angel finished a respectable third over 6f here last time, when also giving the impression today's extra furlong will prove well within his compass, and he looks one to keep on the right side of. Unex Friendly just had the measure of Laurens Dream when runner-up at Yarmouth and has to enter calculations on that form, while Borderline Madness is worth a second glance returning to 7f for her nursery debut.

Runner-up at Newbury before occupying the same position at York, Belgrave sets the standard with an official rating of 81 and he looks set to go close once more. Ralph Beckett's colt may have to settle for silver again, though, as ONE MORE gets the vote. Too keen to quite see out 7f behind the subsequent Horris Hill winner at Newbury last month, a drop in trip could play to his strengths. Lexington Rocket shaped with considerable promise at Yarmouth after missing the break and he should know more this time around.

ALZAHIR trounced Blufferonthebus (second) in a seller over C&D recently and although 12lb worse off with that rival, it is difficult to see the form being reversed. The latter, admittedly, looks the most likely to serve it up to the selection. That said, Beau Gars shares an identical rating and might provide some additional resistance in receipt of a further 3lb.

EQUION built on some pleasing efforts in defeat when ploughing through the mud over C&D a couple of weeks ago and conditions are in his favour again as he attempts to defy a 5lb higher mark. Marsh Benham is thriving on his racing and justified favouritism at Brighton just two days after running behind the selection here. Run For The Sun chased home a couple of subsequent winners at Ffos Las, with another right behind her, and Turn Up The Heat warrants consideration too.

MISTER BLUEBIRD's return to form has coincided with the ground going testing and he gave favourite-backers few concerns at Bath. Heather Main's grey has a 5lb penalty to contend with, but he might be able to dictate matters in this small field and is fancied to follow up. Marching Mac is a major threat, though, because he has won three times in just over a month and laughed at his rivals at Nottingham. Brooklyn Nine Nine and Batal Zabeel both drop in class so can't be dismissed lightly.
