Steve Ryder has three horse racing tips for Wednesday's racing at Bath and Southwell.
14:28 Bath
Fai Fai has shown improved form since the application of cheekpieces but he is likely to struggle against MINTANA (best priced at 11/10) who won easily here over 5f 10 days ago. That comfortable four length victory came over 5f here on soft ground and this step back up in trip half a furlong could even suit her better given that she is a two-time winner over 6f in her career.
The handicapper has raised Mintana 7lbs for that victory but he instead runs here under a 5lb penalty meaning that she is 2lbs “well in” at the weights. The soft ground is no concern and she should follow up with talented 3lb claimer Joe Leavy retaining the ride.
15:58 Bath
Unexposed three-year-old Muqinah could show improvement in first time cheekpieces but the standard is set by recent course and distance winner SONNET STAR (best priced at 11/2). The Stuart Kittow trained filly has been a model of consistency in her career so far with form figures of 23223556421 and she gained a well-deserved victory over this course and distance at the start of this month.
Sonnet Star stayed on strongly on the heavy ground that day to win by 1 ½ lengths and a 5lb rise from the handicapper could underestimate her. David Probert takes over on board and she looks sure to be involved in the finish with up to four places available.
18:45 Southwell
With two early non-runners, this looks the perfect opportunity for BALTIC (best priced at 5/4) to bounce back from a below par effort on soft ground last time. The Harry Charlton trained colt had previously won all of his four starts this season including when winning twice at Newcastle off marks of 70 and 78.
With the all-weather clearly suiting this son of Frankel well, he is expected to bounce back on the all-weather and record is sixth victory in seven handicap starts.
