Despite the track not ideally suiting him, COASTGUARD STATION performed very well to finish fourth in a stronger race at Cheltenham last time out and should be able to get more involved on this flat track back down in grade.

Henry Oliver’s charge is a strong traveller and finds himself only 4lb higher than when he sauntered to success in a higher class race at Uttoxeter earlier in the year. He will love conditions and should be spot on for this.

His second to Martator at Ascot back in March has been franked by the winner, who subsequently defied a mark of 134 at Ascot last weekend. He can get the better of Imperial Saint, who was a fortunate winner here last time out.

In the Grand Sefton Chase, I’m really positive about the credentials of David Pipe’s KING TURGEON, who already held an entry for this race prior to winning at Chepstow 11 days ago and could be tailor-made for this task.

The six-year-old’s biggest asset is his jumping, which should come into full effect over these fences, and he sneaks into the race off a low weight. He carried top weight to an easy success last time out, and Jack Tudor is back in the saddle.

His profile fits the criteria as a potential winner of this contest, and his in-form handler is no stranger to success in the race, having won it with Poole Master 10 years ago. With plenty in his favour, this smart chaser can make a bold bid.
