Although the six-year-old has a 4lb higher mark to contend with, he may find enough improvement to defy that rise. Lord Of Thunder was still in touch when falling two out on his chase bow at Cheltenham in October and he's feared most, ahead of dual C&D winner Stormy Flight.

JURANCON built on his promising second-placed hurdles bow at Worcester when landing the spoils at Chepstow last month. David Pipe's inmate drew well clear with a subsequent winner that day and he looks up to defying a 6lb penalty. The biggest threat is likely to emerge from fellow penalised scorer Mythical Moon, who impressed with his attitude when winning at Stratford. Disco Davis may chase the duo home if cutting out the jumping errors.

BILLYTHEREALBIGRED was hugely progressive in handicap hurdles, winning three on the bounce, before ending his season with a fall at Ayr. The four-year-old showed no ill effects when making a successful chasing debut at Bangor in October and a 12lb higher rating may not be enough to stop him from improving further. Dartmoor Pirate ran well to finish fourth in the EBF Final at Sandown and is likely to be in the mix on his chasing bow, while Fire Flyer has the ability to get involved in proceedings too.

Iris Des Issards is likely to appreciate a step up in trip based on his return third here last month. Kayley Woollacott's gelding should have more to offer on just his seventh appearance over hurdles, but a chance is taken on handicap debutant NIGHT DUTY. The eight-year-old has required plenty of patience since winning a point-to-point in May 2021, only running three times since, but this might be the time to catch him. Jaminska and Baby Sage complete the shortlist.

WHYDAH GALLY won over 3m5f on soft going at Lingfield back in February. A recent third off this mark in the Southern National offered plenty of encouragement and Joe Tizzard's resolute stayer is taken to confirm running with Musical Slave, who wasn't far behind the selection in fourth at Fontwell and can have a say in the outcome. Art Decco proved a progressive chaser last season and is preferred to Rouge De L'quest on his reappearance.

A winner between the flags in Ireland, SOBER GLORY made a successful start under Rules when landing a bumper at Chepstow with plenty left in the tank. That is easily the strongest form on offer and the four-year-old could prove difficult to beat, despite carrying a penalty. The newcomer Crackerjacque is from the family of high-class chaser Sam Brown and could get involved, while Paul Nicholls' Master Theobaker is worth noting on his racecourse debut.
