SOL CAYO, who won a nursery off this mark on his final start as a juvenile in November 2022, was a comfortable winner over C&D last month and can give another bold showing in his attempt to follow up off a 7lb higher mark. Although on paper this is a step up in class, today's opposition doesn't appear to be any deeper and he could be up to giving weight and a beating to these rivals. Lerwick is feared most, with the C&D hat-trick seeking Midnight Lion respected despite stepping up in grade. Prediction : 1st Sol Cayo 2nd Lerwick 3rd Midnight Lion

DASH GORDON, who has had a wind surgery since winning over C&D in October, still has plenty of scope for progression and could be hard to beat in this classified stakes if he picks up where he left off last season. A fellow track-and-trip winner, Ballyare is dangerous to rule out on these terms, while Doon The Glen runs for an in-form yard/jockey combination and can also figure if he settles better now he has some experience of racing with blinkers added. Prediction : 1st Dash Gordon 2nd Ballyare 3rd Doon The Glen

There is a lot to like about the chance held by STUDIOUS, who overcame an awkward start to win going away over the extended mile at Wolverhampton 12 days ago. The three-year-old was in full fight when he hit the furlong marker on that occasion, which bodes well for him revering to today's trip off and a 6lb rise may not halt him. Sweet Cicely belied her long odds when second at Wolverhampton latest and is another to note on just her second start in a handicap. Cuban Lynx and Penelope Valentine complete the shortlist. Prediction : 1st Studious 2nd Sweet Cicely 3rd Cuban Lynx

ARANTES NASCIMENTO showed much more on his first start following wind surgery last month, when finishing a narrow second over this C&D. A 2lb rise in the handicap should be no barrier to success based on his past exploits and, from a handy draw, he is taken to go one place better. Lahab couldn't quite reel in the leaders over 6f recently but a return to further should benefit him, while Streak Lightning was second to a progressive sort last time out and is also noted. Prediction : 1st Arantes Nascimento 2nd Lahab 3rd Streak Lightning
16:15 Newcastle
Pacifist (second) had the measure of BAIKAL (fifth) when the pair met at Kempton last month, but the latter saw sustained market support and was sent off as favourite that day. Sir Mark Prescott's filly ought to have learnt plenty from that debut experience, so it would come as no surprise were she able to reverse the form. Lechuga Lad, who was also unable to justify favouritism on his debut, must now concede a weight-for-age allowance to all his rivals and Charlie Johnston's newcomer Wadacre Moriarty might be the bigger threat. Prediction : 1st Baikal 2nd Pacifist 3rd Wadacre Moriarty
16:45 Newcastle
NOVAK accounted for a few of these when scoring over C&D 10 days ago and the six-year-old could be hard to stop once again, despite a 4lb rise. Wee Fat Mac was third on that occasion and it would be no surprise to see him in the mix, while Beale Street edges out Showtime Mahomes to be best of the rest. Prediction : 1st Novak 2nd Wee Fat Mac 3rd Beale Street
17:15 Newcastle
In a race where plenty have questions to answer, it is hard to oppose the recent C&D winner BRAZILIAN ROSE. The four-year-old remains unexposed and a 5lb rise may underestimate the daughter of Calyx. Dazy Mazy has not been beaten far in two starts here in recent months and could prove to be the main threat, ahead of Miami Hills and Giselles Izzy. Prediction : 1st Brazilian Rose 2nd Dazy Mazy 3rd Miami Hills
