12:12 Southwell

Steve Ryder runs through the key races on 30th January and names his best bets for the day.

There is jumps racing at Wincanton on Thursday 30th January while Southwell and Chelmsford stage all-weather meetings.

Today’s Best Bets from Steve Ryder

The Jennie Candlish trained ROSENPUR (best priced at 9/4) got off the mark at the seventeenth attempt earlier this month in a novice race and he looks the one to beat despite a 5lb rise from the handicapper. The five-year-old had been running consistently well over 7f finishing runner-up on all three of his starts before winning over 5f last time.

Rosenpur still raced enthusiastically over the minimum trip and he can hopefully get a good early position under top apprentice Joe Leavy and win from Stall 4.

12:12 Southwell- Rosenpur 9/4 (1pt)

14:12 Southwell

Both Blue Sky Boy and Dark Mystery are respected following their near misses last time but preference goes to FURTHER MEASURE (best priced at 11/4) who won over this course and distance last time. The Mike Murphy trained eight-year-old won over 2 miles at Lingfield off a mark of 55 earlier this month before finishing a never nearer 4th at Wolverhampton over 1m6f.

Further Measure benefitted from the step back up in trip to 2 miles here last time winning in impressive style by five lengths and he runs here from 1lb “well in” at the weights under a 4lb penalty. He looks the one to beat despite this step up in class.

2:12 Southwell- Further Measure 11/4 (1pt)

18:30 Chelmsford

MATCH ANTHEM (best priced at 4/1) failed in his hat-trick bid last time at Wolverhampton but this return to Chelmsford should suit his prominent running style. The four-year-old won over 7f here in November off a mark of 46 before following up at Wolverhampton in Boxing Day by a nose. He beat Ash Wednesday that day who has won all three of his starts since and is now rated 19lbs higher.

Match Anthem runs here off only a 2lb higher mark so he should still prove well handicapped and with a better run can win again under Luke Morris.
